Learning life’s lessons the hard way or not at all: Disappointment as a guiding force.

A small excerpt from chapter 11,

The Residue of Tauma: Learned Helpplessness

Disappointment is one of the most universal emotional ex- periences. It’s the gap between our expectations and reality, the moment when things don’t turn out the way we hoped or planned. It’s uncomfortable, sometimes even painful, but it’s also a normal part of life. When we’re disappointed, we feel a sense of loss, frustration, anger or even sadness. Our sense of control over the outcome of this situation is shaken, and in the wake of it, we often need to reassess our approach, release our expectations, to create the ability to move forward.
